Arsenal FC Oaklands 5 v 2 Chelsea FC Blenheim Elite
A league game on the road for the Elite team as they travelled to an in form Arsenal FC on Wednesday afternoon. The game started positively for Chelsea FC Blenheim Elite, collective team pressure in the opening minutes created an early chance and set piece opportunity. As the opening stages of the fixture progressed, Arsenal FC grew into the game and took the lead after regaining possession high up the pitch and punishing Chelsea FC Blenheim with a calm finish.
The home team continued to make things difficult for Chelsea FC Blenheim Elite as they remained organised and compact, making chances difficult to create. Arsenal FC extended their lead with a well taken free kick 4 minutes after their opening goal. Things got worse for Chelsea FC Blenheim as Arsenal, with their tails up, scored another 2 quick fire goals, 4-0 at half time and a mountain to climb. A very difficult opening 25 minutes for Blenheim, certainly not what they are used to as a group. Chelsea FC Blenheim Elite continued to create chances, with Darcy hitting the bar from distance, before Dani hit the rebound off the same section of the goal frame, it felt like one of those days. With the hunt for another goal meaning Chelsea FC Blenheim Elite committing players forward itwas Arsenal who scored next after a quick break and good finish.
One thing that cannot be questioned was the character and desire shown by our student athletes to stick together, adapt and fight to the end! Time to analyse, recover and focus on next week's NFYL cup semi final v Norwich.
