On a cold day Chelsea FC Blenheim Academy team kicked off 2024 with a visit from AFC Bournemouth in the National Football Youth League.
It was a fast start from the Academy side who imposed their superior football style from kick off. Mia, starting up front for the first time, forced a smart save from the visitors goalkeeper and hit the post in the opening exchanges. The game was changed though as a harsh penalty for hand ball was awarded to AFC Bournemouth, who duly took the gift from the football gods and found themselves in the lead.
Chelsea FC Blenheim continued to create chances in the second half, with Mia and Dior seeing chances well saved. As the time ticked on Chelsea FC Blenheim took more chances to level the game and pushed higher up the pitch. This created space for AFC Bournemouth to score again on the counter attack, and take all 3 points. A frustrating game to start the year but many positives to take into the away Cup game next week against Ipswich Town.
